Human Resources Advisor

Chaleur Forest Products is currently recruiting for a full-time Human Resources Advisor at its Belledune location.

Chaleur Forest Products is the result of the consolidation of two established forest products companies and operates three sites in New Brunswick. Our mills located in Bathurst and Belledune have completely automated lines, producing over 300 million board feet of lumber per year. Our lumber is marketed throughout North America and distributed by rail and truck to the Canadian and the US Eastern Seaboard. Chaleur Forest Products employs over 400 people across our sites.

The Role

Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, the HR Advisor is responsible for the efficient and effective implementation of all aspects of the Human Resources function. The Advisor will be responsible for executing HR strategies, plans, policies and programs to support the strategic objectives and continued
growth of the sawmill. S/he also plays a significant role in coaching and advising leaders on all human resources topics and best practice strategies. 

This Advisor will implement improved people strategies around employee engagement including but not limited to employee relations, labour relations, performance management, workforce planning, change management, training and development, driving excellence to ensure the organization’s success, now and
in the future. 

The ideal candidate is comfortable working in a unionized environment supporting organizational direction and equally comfortable with a hands-on approach, with strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to influence and interact with all levels of employees. As a natural coach and mentor, you are capable of being in the trenches to delivering value-added HR solutions. As the ideal candidate, you are a trusted advisor, resourceful, and adaptable, you are skilled in examining and re-engineering procedures, developing policy, interpreting collective agreements and building and implementing HR transformation initiatives.

The Candidate will have the following qualifications:
  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources or a related field;
  • Professional designation in Human Resources an asset;
  • Minimum five (5) years’ progressive experience in multiple HR disciplines (i.e. employee relations,
    performance management, coaching, recruitment, compensation & benefits, etc.);
  • Minimum three (3) years’ experience working within a unionized manufacturing environment;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with ability to establish effective working
    relationships, lead, motivate, coach, mentor and resolve conflicts;
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential situations and information with discretion and
  • Solid working, up-to-date knowledge of Canadian legislation and HR compliance;
  • Proficient in the use of HR Information Systems and Microsoft Office Suite;
  • Previous experience with disability and attendance management programs;
  • Bilingual (French and English), written and spoken.
